With the republican national convention under way, many women are concerned about what the future may hold.

In the very recent past, we have seen some essential rights taken away. 

Let’s look back at the history of women’s rights.

While the women’s right to vote was passed in 1920, many other things we take for granted didn’t come into play until the Fair Housing Act of 1968.

Until then a woman couldn’t apply for a loan or own a home without a male signature. And it wasn’t until 1974 that a woman could have her own credit card.

While laws were passed in 1963 that provided for equal pay for women holding the same job as a man, in practicality that is still in question today.

With the recent abolishment of Roe verses Wade, a women’s right to safe medical care is also uncertain. I vividly remember girls in my high school traveling to the dirty back alleys of Seattle, or performing old wives tales that endangered their lives when they found them selves under age, unsupported, and pregnant with seemingly no options. 

I may not choose an abortion for myself, I’m definitely pro life and believe there is life when with the first multiplication of the cell at fertilization, but I will fight for each of us being able to decide the best and safest medical and mental health care for ourselves. 

With some states outlawing abortion as an unlawful procedure no matter the circumstances, women’s lives are now in danger. Not all pregnancies are without complications. 

Abruptio Placentae (placental abruption) is a life threatening condition. The placenta separates from the uterine wall, causing massive bleeding. This is often life threatening to the mother and baby. In states that prohibit abortion, the mother in severe cases will die, because the only course of action is terminating the pregnancy to gain access to the wall of the uterus in order to stop the hemorrhaging.

Sometimes a fetus will die before birth. Occasionally the woman’s body will then reject the fetus and she will go into labor. Other times labor can be induced. But sometimes the dead fetus has caused damage and infection. The correct medical procedure is scraping the uterine wall as in an abortion, which is prohibited. 

There are other medical complications that lead to life threatening situations for both the mother and fetus. Taking away all options of pregnancy termination leads to loss of life for them both.

Withholding correct and life saving medical care is murder. Much like withholding food and water to someone who is starving.

Life is not black and white. There are so many grey areas. 

I spent time looking at what Mr Trump is planning to do once he is elected. I am concerned.

In his own words he has stated he will take away funding to schools that teach gender ideology and critical race theory.  All schools must teach “our values” and “our history.”

My values are based on love, equality, and truth, and my history is the factual recorded data from reliable sources.

He also stated there will be a government established religion in schools. 

Any hospital that performs gender affirming surgery, which he calls sexual mutilation, will lose federal funding. 

He supports state restrictions on birth control.

I may not understand his thoughts on policing correctly, but it sounds to me that he will be funding retraining of police forces to establish his own racial agenda, and will send in the National Guard if they don’t follow through.

He will institute a travel ban to keep all Muslims out of the country. 

He will do away with EPA regulations on drilling and auto production.

He will shut down all wind energy production.

We have fought long and hard in this country for equal rights for all people, for equality for women, and for the right to worship whatever God we believe in. We established the separation of religion and state. 

This country is full of intelligent people. 

We need to do our own research.

Don’t believe what the news or your neighbor is telling you without checking the facts.

It used to be that all “news” whether on television or in print had to have at least two corroborating sources, but that is no longer true.

We have to do our own fact checking from reliable sources.

Wikipedia is not a factual resource.

Choose wisely, ask questions.

Climate change is real.

Safe reliable healthcare should be a right for everyone no matter where you live in this country. 

Freedom of religion should also be of utmost importance. 

I also don’t understand spending billions of dollars to build a wall across the border and pledging to decrease income taxes. Where is that money coming from? Don’t we have a huge national debt?

I am concerned for the nation, for women, and children; for the ecology, for those who call this nation home and aren’t rich, white men. 

I will continue to check all information against reliable sources and I will continue to hope. As a woman I urge all women to vote after researching each candidate. Find out their views on equality, immigration, preservation of natural resources and conservation. Our nation and our independence depends on it.
